DJ Name: bacpac Show name: Rockabilly Wordwide Mashup Location: USA ‘bacpac’ has had a long career in radio that started with guitar lessons at 4 years old. bacpac credits being a musician as the most significant reason she produces radio today. Originally from New York City, some people knew her as an aerosol artist, painting on music videos. Jeremie Franko had always felt a connection to the United Kingdom through her grandmother who was born in Liverpool. Many of bacpac’s relatives lived in the East End of London after WW2. She moved to London where she was going to school in London for architectural design and became the guitarist for early punk feminist band, The Raincoats. She lived in London for several years where she took Sound Recording classes at a London studio. Back in the States, bacpac pursued her architectural career simultaneously as an aerosol artist and eventually worked as a scenic artist on hundreds of movies and music videos. In New York City, bacpac took her recording skills and worked as an audio engineer for WBAI/FM for almost 10 years. A move to Arizona introduced bacpac to swing dance and rockabilly. Radio Phoenix was looking for an audio engineer and she signed on, eventually producing Rockabilly Worldwide Mashup for Radio Phoenix. She was listening to Rockabilly Radio and met Crazy Kat Daddy (R.I.P. former Rockabilly Radio DJ Neil Breaks) who introduced her to Rockabilly Radio. bacpac says it is because of her musical background that her show explores the roots of rockabilly through vintage swing and blues. bacpac is still an active musician in a swing band as well as a punk rock band. Jake Calypso has made over 20 albums and has played at hundreds of festivals and gigs across the world. Due to being on tour and recording so often, Jake didn’t think he’d be able to do a show for Rockabilly Radio, but Jake was both excited and motivated to dedicate a few hours of his time to record his show “Welcome to my Rockabilly world”. In the 1980’s, it was through the radio that Jake discovered many of the Rock ‘n Roll artists that he still loves today, It was also thanks to the radio that he met Mac Bouvrie (Mac Records) to sign his first single in 1983 with the Corals. It was only natural that 40 years later, he felt the same excitement to share this music through our radio station. As a teenager, he was a massive collector of rock ‘n roll, R&B, hillbilly, 60s and more recently Blues records. On Jakes show, he aims to play the Rockabilly records that originally sparked his interest in the 80s, all the way through to current day with the new generation of bands and artists. Listening to “Welcome to my Rockabilly world” you are very likely to hear demons, unreleased tracks and forgotten titles that were acquired from a recently deceased friend of Jake, this is why each episode of Jake’s show is dedicated to André Château. Jake fluctuates between presenting his shows in English and French. We are so happy to have Jake Calypso as apart of our team!
